• 30th - Farthing Downs: 1 kestrel seen to make a kill, then flew off with small prey to feast elsewhere. Wonderful to see. 3 bullfinch, 2 linnet, 1 mipit only, 16 fieldfare over, 20 + redwing, 11 long tailed tit in a loose flock, 1 chiffchaff, 3 goldcrest, 20+ jackdaws circling overhead, 1 very distant mistle thrush singing. • 27th - Riddlesdown: Very brief flight view of a bunting that was most probably a female reed--surely too hopeful to have any yellowhammers return? Birds very thin on the ground elsewhere up there - no larks or pipits, but another stonechat in the rough by Court Farm along with a single green woodpecker.(Brian Thomas)

• 9th - Farthing Downs: Quiet recently but today 10 goldcrest, 1 nuthatch, over 10 long tailed tits, 3 bullfinch, 5 mipits, 2 skylarks, 2 pied wagtails, 2 linnets, 2 siskin over, 5 starlings, up to 30 redwings (but still no fieldfares), 1 woodcock flushed on to field adjacent to Downs, 1 green woodpecker, 5 ring necked parakeets, 1 kestrel hunting,1 sparrowhawk over, 2 chaffinch and the usual carrion crows and jackdaws.
